What time of day is best to offer classes to staff?
Some companies choose a before shift practice to set a positive tone for the day, some offer lunchtime classes for a mid-day reset and some offer a class at the end of the day as a way to transition between work and home. We are limited on space, can we still offer classes?
Yes, some of our clients offer classes right at their cubicles or work stations for simple stretching and mindfulness practices. A more physical practice does require some space, but some ideas include; break rooms, basement spaces, and conference rooms.
Will participants need to wear special clothes or want a shower after yoga class?
That depends on the goal of the class. Some clients request a yoga classes to stretch out employees who sit at desks all day, some ask for a mindful movement yoga class to calm the nervous system. Neither of these classes requires a clothing change. For more physical classes, loose fitting clothing is recommended.
Do participants need to have taken yoga before or do they need to have some flexibility in order to attend?
No prior yoga experience or any degree of flexibility required. In fact, some of the benefits of yoga are experienced most quickly by those who haven’t even tried to touch their toes in awhile.
What if a participant has a medical condition/injury?
Our instructors are extensively trained and able to modify poses for various medical and physical conditions. However, it is advisable for a participant to check with their medical professional if they have a serious condition.
What is mindfulness meditation?
Mindfulness is an evidence-based practice of paying attention to the present moment in a nonjudgmental way. (Jon Kabat-Zinn)There is a large and growing body of research suggesting it is useful for lowering stress, anxiety, depression and reactivity, as well as increasing the ability to more focused, creative and resilient. Meditation can be thought of as training for the brain.
Is meditation about not thinking?
A common misconception is that meditation means to stop thinking. Trying to stop the mind from thinking is akin to trying to stop the heart from beating. Mindfulness is more about becoming aware of what you are thinking and learning to use your attentional resources wisely.
Will classes disrupt the professional environment of our business?
